The Iconic Character Kuromi Celebrates Her 20th Anniversary with Significant Roblox Activation
Sanrio's mischievous alternative bunny character, Kuromi, is finally taking center stage this Halloween. In celebration of the 20th anniversary since Kuromi joined the Sanrio character universe, the company has partnered with Roblox, Crocs, Hot Topic, and Liquid Death for extensive festivities both online and offline.
New Gaming Adventure: The Mansion of Mischief
Beginning now, players can access a brand-new Roblox minigame titled Kuromi's Mischief Mansion, which is built within the existing Hello Kitty Café Tycoon game. This launch inaugurates what is planned to be a yearly Halloween tradition honoring Kuromi. An official described it as Sanrio's “most ambitious digital activation yet”.
As for how to play, Mischief Mansion is a version of the classic hiding game. Players take on one of two roles: hiders disguise themselves as haunted objects, while those seeking assume the role of Kuromi and try to locate those in hiding. Through participation, players can earn special currency to redeem Kuromi-themed decor items in the café game, plus limited-time rewards and item drops.
We are thrilled to partner with our partners to honor Kuromi with this exclusive capsule collection. With our brand collaboration program, fans everywhere can join the festivities both on- and off-platform and we know everyone will enjoy the experience of Kuromi's Mischief Mansion in the game this year.
Physical Events at Hot Topic Stores
This spooky Halloween chaos is also spilling over to physical stores. This month, more than 600 Hot Topic locations are getting a makeover decked out in purple to resemble the in-game mansion from Sept. 29 until Oct. 19. These stores will offer an assortment of exclusive Kuromi items including hoodies to keychains. Purchases includes a card to unlock a digital item on Roblox. The collection will be available at retail from early October.
SoCal enthusiasts take heed: A specific main location in California is also holding a themed pop-up featuring photo spots, shareable moments, plus the opportunity to meet Kuromi in person on a specific date from 12-2pm PDT.
More Collaborations and Liquid Death
If you wanting additional cute Kuromi styles, Sanrio is also collaborating with Liquid Death on a limited line featuring an exclusive jacket and shirt. These items will be available in numerous stores and at online stores in mid-October.
Comfortable Footwear for Enthusiasts
Lastly, the company offers something for the fans of comfortable footwear. Kuromi-themed Crocs in adult and kids sizes are launching exclusively online starting Oct. 1. Plus, Kuromi fans can also unlock an exclusive set of digital Crocs for their avatar while playing the game.
Background at Kuromi's Origins
Kuromi debuted in a 2005 animated series, Onegai My Melody. Recently, she appeared alongside her occasional rival My Melody in Netflix's stop-motion anime My Melody & Kuromi.
